Since the insurgency in 1994 the zapatistas in Mexico/Chiapas are one of the most fascinating social movement in South America. They controll more than 30 autonomous rural districts in Mexico's South, which are since 2003 administered by the „Juntas de Buen Gobierno“, the councils of Good Government". In the video by Oliver Ressler and Tom Waibel, which emerged in the framework of the project  "Alternative Economics, Alternative Societies", the zapatists report about the reasons for the insurgency as well as achievements and problems of autonomy. The new book of John Holloway, a political scientist based in Puebla/Mexico, deals with the universal demands of the indigenous insurgency and its relevance for the renewal of leftist theory and practice.
